Each year at this time the rounds of interviews go on for new NFL coaches. This year there are more than the usual openings for head coaches. The Bengals J. Gruden has already been hired by Washington, and Mike Zimmer is rumored to be going to Minnesota as their head coach. I don’t mind seeing Gruden go, but I would hate to see the Bengals do without Zimmer. His defense has been the saving grace for the Bengals for the past several seasons. The offensive play calling of Gruden leaves a lot to be desired. I am sure it is not all Gruden’s fault, but he has not meshed with Lewis or Dalton very often. As you will probably see again this year when all the dust has cleared, the same names will show up as head coaches but just with different teams. This is a very tight knit fraternity and seldom do many new names pop up as head coaches in the same year. Once you make it in as a head coach, you are like a tenured teacher. However, to get into this fraternity, it sometimes seems as if it will take an act by Congress; and we all know how fast that happens.
