Murder suspect confesses to killing accomplice

first_imgfollowing his arrest on Saturday at Kurupakari Crossing, Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), wanted murder suspect Stafrei Hopkinson Alexander confessed to investigators that he killed his accomplice, Robin Maxwell Thomas.Alexander, 30, of Lot 129 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was arrested and charged along with Thomas, 25, of Caneview Avenue, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, for the murder of businesswoman Shevon Gordon of Wismar, Linden, during a robbery on April 4, 2015.However, last December, the duo escaped from lawful custody at the Mackenzie Police Station. As such, the Police issued wanted bulletins for them. But after evading Police ranks for six months, Alexander was arrested in a vehicle at a checkpoint in the area.During interrogation over the past few days, the suspect confessed to investigators that he killed Thomas. ThisMurder suspect: Stafrei Hopkinson Alexanderwas confirmed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum, who stated that another murder case was also made out against the suspect after he confessed to another murder on Tuesday.According to details provided by Police sources, Alexander reportedly told detectives that he did not want his accomplice to implicate him in the murder of the businesswoman. The suspect disclosed that on the same day they escaped from custody, he dealt Thomas a fatal blow with a piece of wood to the back of his head. Alexander said he then dumped his accomplice’s body in the Demerara River in the vicinity of West Watooka, Wismar.The body was discovered some time later and was identified as Thomas’s via fingerprints.Meanwhile, the second murder Alexander confessed to occurred between February 9 and 12, 2015. Based upon information received, he killed Richard Remmington, 44, of Lot 19 Christianburg, Linden, at Cholomdely Hill, Wismar.Two persons, Winston Hinds and Owen Belfield, were already charged with Remmington’s murder when they implicated Alexander.Alexander is also facing other charges, including attempted murder and several counts of robbery under arms.last_img
